PTA General Membership Meeting tomorrow night

Our first PTA meeting of the school year will be held this Thursday 29th September from 6-6.30pm in the school library. We will be presenting the 2016-2017 Budget and Standing Rules for approval. Everyone is welcome and if you haven't had a chance to join the PTA yet, you can join at this meeting.

Walk to School Week - October 3-7
During the week of October 3-7, Ben Franklin students will participate in the annual walk/bike to school week. This event encourages physical activity and safe pedestrian and bicycling skills to children. Volunteers will be at the school to encourage participating students each morning. Thank you to our local Red Apple supermarket for donating water and fruit for this event to be passed out to all of our students either walking or riding to school. Police and Fire will be at the school on Tuesday morning in support of this event and to hang out with our kids as part of walking and biking awareness. Please contact Susan Cockrell at susancockrell@live.com for more details.

Vision and Hearing Screening
The annual Vision and Hearing Screening is scheduled for Thursday, October 6th from 8.45am until 1.30 pm. We still need parents to help. If you are available to help, please sign up and indicate the hours you will be there. We also ask that students who use glasses or contact lenses be sure to wear them to school that day. Click on sign up genius link here to sign up to help.

Old digital cameras taking up space in your drawers?
Do you have a digital camera you no longer use hiding somewhere in your home? If so, please consider donating it to the Ben Franklin Art Department. We are building a small inventory of simple digital cameras (like the Nikon Coolpix or Canon PowerShot) to use for teaching photography. We are building a new photography lesson for our Fourth and Fifth Grade students. The cameras will be used by students as they work with our Artist in Residence, Beverly Ash Gilbert. There will be a box for donations in the PTA room, or you can contact me directly: Evelyn Bundesmann at artdocent@mybenfranklinpta.org

It’s that time of year again for the National Reflections Art Competition. This is a great opportunity to show your creative/artistic side related to this year’s theme “What Is Your Story?”  Student entries are due by Friday November 4th. For more information please visit http://www.lwptsa.net/reflections/

School News

Pay in advance for Popcorn Fridays!
Has your family experienced the trauma of a forgotten Popcorn Friday? Or triumphantly remembered as you drove into the parking lot, only to realize you didn’t have a quarter? Franklin Elementary is pleased to offer you a solution! Sending in $7.50 this week buys your child popcorn each week for the year, making your Popcorn Friday-stress a thing of the past. Checks can be made payable to Franklin Elementary. Please note, on occasion we have to cancel popcorn Fridays and will be unable to refund your money for that day.

Please remember to label outerwear
Happy Fall! As temperatures drop, our lost and found count tends to rise. Please take a minute this week to label your child’s outerwear so lost items can be returned. Even initials are helpful. Unclaimed items are donated to local charities each month.
