Fall Staff Appreciation Lunch - Tuesday October 17
We are mixing things up this year and spreading the appreciation for our amazing Ben Franklin Staff throughout the year rather than for just one week. Show your appreciation by signing up to bring something delicious to add to our Fall Soup and Sandwich spread for the staff. Thanks so much!

International Night - Thursday November 16
Ben Franklin PTA proudly presents our yearly culturally diverse International Night on Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 6.30-8pm. International night is a night to come together as one and learn about the many cultures of our school through dancing, singing, eating and playing. However, to make this an amazing event we need your help! We would love for you all to share your culture with our community. Traditionally, we have tables set up according to the country a family wants to educate us on. On these tables, there can be food, games, maps, pictures or specific items that are traditional to your country of origin. We would love it if you and your child could dress in traditional clothing. We also have a stage where you can sign up for performances from children representing their culture. If you or your child would like to participate in International Night please sign up. Let's make this the best International Night ever!

Franklin Warrior Run - We raised more than $40,000!
Congratulations to everyone who collected donations at the Franklin Warrior Run. We surpassed our goal of $40,000 and reached a total of $41,545! What an outstanding job. We have received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback on the fundraiser and we would like to thank all our wonderful volunteers - we couldn't have done it without you. Thank you to the Franklin Community for getting involved and making a difference in furthering the academic achievements of our students. We are waiting on a few outstanding donation envelopes before we award prizes so if you haven't returned your Warrior Run envelope, please do so. Stay tuned for further announcements on prizes. Thank you also to those who treated yourself to frozen yogurt at Menchie’s on the weekend, with 20 per cent of the cost being donated to the PTA.

Reflections Art Competition 2017-2018
Is your child a budding artist? Enter the REFLECTIONS art competition. The Reflections Program is a National PTA and Washington State PTA cultural arts competition. The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works, created around a specific theme. The theme this year is WITHIN REACH. The six art categories are: Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts, Film/Video and Choreography/Dance. For more information, rules and entry forms, please visit the school library, visit http://www.lwptsa.net/reflections/ or contact Ben Franklin's Reflections Chair Alison McElroy on 425 891 1221. Please have artwork and forms turned into your teacher by Wednesday, October 25th, 2017 by 2pm.

Joining the PTA
Remember, your PTA membership expires every year on June 30th, so you must rejoin each school year. If you haven't yet had a chance to join this year please join online here. Don't forget to update your child's grade and teacher so we can get the student directory up and running online.

School News

Hey Dad, where’s my jacket?
Our lost and found is overflowing with unlabeled jackets, sweaters and sports equipment. Labeling items with at least initials will help us get them back to your student. We’ll donate any unclaimed items on November 22, before the Thanksgiving break.

Donations for The Learning Center
Ms Linnell started at Franklin this year and took over a brand-new Learning Center classroom. She is hoping for some donations to fill her room with the following items to make her students feel welcome. Parents, do you have any of these items? If so, please drop them off at the office.

  • Books: picture books (appropriate for K-5), graphic novels for kids, beginner reader books, alphabet books, etc.
  • Gently Used Toys: LEGO, puzzles, kids’ small musical instruments, figurines, hot wheels, playmobile, stacking toys, action figures, blocks, small toys used for "playing store".
  • For the Quiet Corner: a couple of yoga mats/foam carpets, clean cushions/pillows, bean bag, kids' size tents.
  • For Circle Time: a gently used rug.
